What is happening on the Trichy-Chennai highway that is making sensational news?

Frequented by many vehicles, Trichy-Chennai NH is one of the important highways in Chennai. This highway is making news now.
It is brought to light that the traffic has been moving very slowly on the NH near Palar Bridge in Mamandur. The recent heavy rains here have damaged the road and the road is yet to be repaired. The presence of numerous potholes here has made the vehicles go at snail’s pace.
Point is that the Highways Department had filled the potholes here with cement but it didn’t last long due to frequent usage of this road by vehicles.
On the national highways near Mamandur, there has been heavy traffic congestion in the last few days. The surprising piece of information is that it takes 3 long hours for the vehicles to cross the 3km stretch. This was pointed out by some regular commuters.
A regular commuter spoke about how he was going to his office late everyday due to the bad road conditions here. He added that even if started early he was unable to reach his office on time because of piling up of vehicles for 3kms. Now, the regular commuters want this important road to be repaired as soon as possible.
