Posted on: 05/Nov/2021 9:15:35 AM
The residents belonging to Tambaram and its nearby places have now got a reason to rejoice!!

On Thursday, 4th November 2021, an ordinance was promulgated and as per that it was clear that Tambaram in Chennai is a municipal corporation.

Recently, in the Assembly, the municipal administration minister Mr. K.N. Nehru has announced that Tambaram municipality, adjoining 4 municipalities plus town and village panchayats would be merged to form a city municipal corporation. It is important to reorganise the urban local bodies due to rapid speeds of urbanisation in the state of TN and this was mentioned in the state gazette.

It is worthy to mention here that the municipalities of Tambaram, Pallavapuram, Pammal, Anakaputhur, Sembakkam and the town panchayats of Chitlapakkam, Madambakkam,Perungalathur, Peerkankaranai and Thiruneermalai in the south Chennai have been urbanising rapidly and are highly contagious also. Information is that the civic infrastructure must be upgraded in these localities in south Chennai. Various civic infrastructures that are needed to be upgraded in the above said localities are street lights, roads, water supply, sewerage, solid waste management etc. The aspirations of the residents must be fulfilled.

The notification revealed that human resources, better administration structure and integrated planning etc are needed to address the issues. It is now brought out that to address the issues consolidation of local bodies into a single larger urban local body was needed badly.

The merging would provide superb benefits as it would not only offer an appropriate administration set up but also it would help in optimising the resources to provide services to the public effectively.

It is learnt that the Tambaram City Municipal Corporation Ordinance 2021 was notified in TN government gazette (Extraordinary) on 3rd of November 2021. On Thursday, it was made available to the media. Point is that the ordinance was issued as the legislative assembly was not in session.
