Guidelines for Singara Chennai 2.0 released now!!

It is well known that the chief minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin has mentioned that the Singara Chennai 2.0 project would be used to improve the basic structures and uplift to the international standards for those areas under GCC. It was also announced that for implementing Singara Chennai 2.0 project an amount of Rs 500 crores would be allotted in the 2021-22 budget. The municipal administration and water supply department or MAWS has issued a GO in this regard
It was mentioned in the GO that the project sanctioning and monitoring committee would be headed by the secretary of MAWS department. The committee would also include senior officers like Finance Secretary, GCC Commissioner plus managing director of metro water department etc.
It was stated that whenever there was a necessity, the secretary of MAWS could modify the guidelines in consultation with the Commissioner of Chennai Corporation and MD of metro water department.
The government order threw light on the release of the funds in 3 instalments. Fifty percent of funds must be released immediately on issue of the sanction and 40percent of the funds must be released depending on the progress and the rest 10percent funds must be released based on the utilization certificate.
According to the GO, the funds should not be used by GCC and metro water to buy vehicles, (except for solid waste management), IT hardware, build office or residential buildings, loan payments etc. Under Singara Chennai 2.0 project, as many as8 aspects like health, sanitation, mobility, transportation etc would be addressed.
