At this time of Coronavirus pandemic infection, it is necessary for us to wear facemasks and maintain social distancing without fail. Truth is that many of us do not follow these.
Now, The GCC commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh has mentioned that a facemask compliance drive would be carried out in Chennai for one week to enforce mask compliance. For this, 200 division teams have been constituted by GCC along with the police personnel. He spoke about how the mask compliance has come down in Chennai city now as many do not wear facemasks.
At the crowded places in Chennai city during the weekends, the senior civic body officers along with the 200 enforcement teams would be creating awareness about wearing facemasks. This drive would begin from Thursday and would be there for about a week of time.
Those who do not wear facemasks would be penalised. It is known that around Rs 4.5crores has been collected from the violators till now in Chennai. There are also police department personnel apart from GCC officials who have been imposing fines on the violators. The schools, colleges and marriage halls etc in Chennai would have awareness campaigns conducted by GCC in the coming days.
The mega vaccination drive that was conducted on Sunday was highly successful and it is now said that GCC would be organising another special vaccination drive on 19th of September.
Point to be noted is that GCC would be conducting vaccination camps every week to cover 100% Chennai population. At present, there are 1.3 lakhs doses of Covishield vaccine available.
