Over the last fortnight, the number of Covid-19 cases has reduced by 20percent in the state of Tamil Nadu. This has brought huge delight on the faces of many. Currently, 30600 persons are getting treatment for this Covid-19 infection in TN.
For the last 2 weeks of time, TN fatality ratio was around 1.3percent and 55 more deaths took place in this period in TN. It must be noted that now the cumulative death toll is at 33557 and that is the third highest in India after Maharashtra and Karnataka.
On Wednesday, 14th of July 2021, TN recorded Coronavirus cases below the 2500 mark for the first time in 106 days. This has surprised many now in TN. Truth is that there were 2458 new Coronavirus cases yesterday. It must not be forgotten that on 31st March TN reported 2579 new or fresh Covid-19 cases and the peak was reached on 21st May when TN recorded as many as 36184 cases. Since then, the number of cases has been reducing.
On Wednesday, the positivity rate dropped to 1.8%. District of Thanjavur had a positivity rate of 4.1percent. The other districts in the central region continue to witness decline in the number of Covid-19 cases. The western districts like Coimbatore, Erode and Salem reported 270 cases, 170 cases and 164 cases respectively. Yesterday in the Chennai city, the positivity rate further got reduced to 0.6% and there were just 153 new Coronavirus cases. In the Chennai district, almost 93% of Covid beds in the hospitals are now vacant due to less number of cases. Last month there was an acute shortage for the Covid beds in the Chennai hospitals.
The state run hospitals received 1000 oxygen concentrators on Wednesday from the voluntary organisations. As per the health minister Mr. M. Subramanian self restriction would be important to avoid the third Coronavirus infection wave in TN.
