Following a reduction in the number of Covid-19 infection cases, the district of Tiruppur is now seeing the arrival of a huge number of migrant or guest workers. It is now revealed that the arrival of these workers have sent the health department into alert mode now

It is well known that some time back the migrant workers from Tiruppur district went to their native places due to the lockdown to contain the spread of Coronavirus pandemic. Things have become normal now and the migrant workers have been returning back to Tiruppur and to other places in TN.

From 28th June, the TN government had lifted the lockdown curbs and had allowed the knitwear units in Tiruppur to resume their activities with 100percent workforce. It is now thought that these migrant workers might spread Covid-19 infection now.

Since Thursday onwards, at the Tiruppur railway station, the health department as well as the Corporation have joined hands together and begun to screen passengers at this railway station. By a train bound to Thiruvananthapuram, the passengers from Shalimar in West Bengal were screened for Coronavirus infection. The staff were busy collecting the swab samples of these passengers. Point is that the staff also collected the mobile numbers plus residential addresses and addresses of their employment.

At the Tiruppur railway station, nearly 350 swabs were collected from the migrant workers who came from north Indian states. It was later mentioned by an official belonging to the health department that the migrant workers have been asked to isolate themselves for 3 days until their swab results are known.
