Strict COVID containment measures back again in Chennai

Posted on: 31/Mar/2021 9:09:05 AM
Chennai corporation commissioner, Mr. G. Prakash has made it clear that GCC would resume stringent Covid-19 containment measures after the upcoming elections on 6th April 2021. He mentioned that the perimeter control planning for areas with Coronavirus cases would begin after 6th of April. Truth is that the movement of the people in these containment zones would be restricted.  It is known that currently there is no restriction in the movement of the residents in the streets that have Covid-19 cases. As per Mr. Prakash, once polling gets completed old verticals would be introduced for containment and GCC would go on full blast. In Chennai, as many as 358 streets have got more than 3 Coronavirus cases and the corporation has put up banners for 14 days in those places.

It is now said that more than 7000 volunteers would be carrying out Covid-19 containment activities for 3 months in containment zones. The Chennai corporation commissioner then hinted about the arrangements that have been made for Covid Care Centres for 6000 patients at Athipet. In future, there would be similar centres in Anna University, Madras University and Victoria Hostel etc also. There would be 1000 beds each in the Anna University and in the Madras University care centres.

It must be remembered that in June 2020 when Covid-19 was at its peak GCC had made arrangements for 23000 beds in the Chennai city. The Covid-19 patients visiting the poll centres would be provided with the PPE kits. Every individual has got the responsibility to prevent the spreading of Covid-19 infection.
