Amazing!! In the last 5 years, TN has sent the second highest number of persons to work in foreign countries

How would you react if you come to know that in the last 5 years one out of ten who went to work in foreign countries were from the state of TN? Surprised right!!
It has been confirmed now that the state of TN has sent the second highest number of workers overseas in the last 5 years. The first has been the state of Kerala from where a maximum number of individuals have gone to work abroad. Union minister of state for external affairs, Mr. V. Muraleedharan has provided data in the LS on 13th March. As per the data, 13.1 lakhs people from TN went abroad for work between January 2016 and March 18th 2021. It is learnt that in the same time period 19 lakhs from Kerala travelled abroad for work.
Information collected is that out of total 1.3crore job seekers from India in the past 5 years Kerala and TN accounted for 24%. From the state of UP about 12.6lakhs persons travelled abroad for work.
It is important to note that about 4.7lakhs people have returned back to TN under Vande Bharat Mission aimed at repatriation of stranded and distressed Indian nationals across the world during Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic might have an impact on the migration of job seekers. This was as per experts belonging to the migration and public administration field.
Head of department of politics and public administration, Madras University, Mr. R. Manivannan spoke about how southeast nations like Singapore and Malaysia continue to be the traditional destinations for those from TN for jobs. He explained that people from TN also go to work in countries like Australia, Canada and the USA. It must be noted that TN contributing the second highest number of workers abroad was not a surprise because Tamils have been migrating for work historically.
