2.46 lakhs Chennai residents have contracted COVID - Teynampet zone has the highest number of active COVID cases now

Teynampet zone belonging to GCC is making news for the wrong reason!!
This important zone belonging to GCC has got the highest number of active Covid-19 cases now amongst the 15 zones. It must be recalled that in 2020 the GCC undertook a study and the Teynampet zone was assessed a high risk zone. In this zone 21.3percent of the population suffered from co-morbidities and that had put them at a risk of suffering illness due to Coviid-19 infection.
Truth is that the Teynampet zone had 97636 senior citizens and 20040 people had diabetes issues in them. On Sunday, as many as 522 persons in this zone lost their lives due to Covid-19 infection. Information is that this amounts to 2.19% of those affected with the infection. The mortality rate of Chennai zone is 1.72% is known. Currently, zones like Anna Nagar and Kodambakkam have 580 and 533 active cases respectively. It must be noted that the second highest number of deaths was reported from the Kodambakkam zone and that was 481.Important zones like Royapuram and Thiru -Vi- Ka Nagar have 470 active cases and 483 active cases respectively.
Least number of active cases has been reported from the zones like Tiruvottriyur and Manali and that was 95 and 65 respectively. Till now, in Chennai city 2.46lakhs people have contracted the infection. It is worthy to note that out of 5198 cases 59.5% were men and around 19% were those in the age group 50 and 59 and the next is 18% of those in the age group 30 and 39.
