Now, ALL GCC zones show an increase in COVID cases now!!

In the last few days all the zones belonging to GCC have shown an increase in the number of fresh Covid-19 positive cases. This has made the Chennai residents and many health experts etc to worry now.

The overall average growth rate of new positive cases in the last week till Sunday was 7.9percent. This was revealed by the data from GCC, More than 10percent growth rate has been witnessed in 5 out of a total of 15 GCC zones now. As many as 9 GCC zones have more than 9percent growth rate.

In north Chennai, Tondiarpet zone has recorded the lowest growth rate of 3.7percent. It must be recalled that on 14th March 2021 the growth rate of new Covid-19 cases was 2.4percent. At that time, 4 GCC zones recorded negative growth rates also. Chennai city recorded an average growth rate of 2.7percent in the week that ended on 3rd October 2020.The growth rate went down to minus 2.4percent by 19th October. The number of daily new cases came down since then and Chennai city recorded a negative growth rate of new cases for many weeks. The highest new cases per week have been recorded in the Sholinganallur zone of GCC with a growth rate of 13.5percent.

According to an officer belonging to GCC, Alandur and Tiruvottiyur zones had growth rates of 13.2% and 11.5% respectively. In the north Chennai zones like Manali and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar had a growth rate of 10.7% and 10.1% respectively. Information is that other zones like Adyar, Ambattur, Kodambakkam, Perungudi and Madhavaram have growth rates of 9.5%, 9.4%, 8.7%, 8.3% and 8.2% respectively.  It is worthy to note that overall the city of Chennai had as many as 4786 active Coronavirus cases and this is around 2% of the total reported cases on Sunday in Chennai.
