The number of Coronavirus cases has been rising in Chennai and now the residents want to protect themselves from this deadly infection. The data from the Chennai Corporation has revealed that more residents are coming forward to get vaccine shots. Across the 15 GCC zones in Chennai, 35747 persons got vaccinated on Tuesday and this was the highest ever since vaccination started in Chennai. The Chennai city crossed 5lakh vaccinations as on Wednesday. It must be noted that out of 5lakhs as many as 2lakhs were above the age of 60 and 1.3lakhs were from the age 45 to 59 with co-morbidities.
Chennai city has done the maximum vaccinations in the entire India and 6.55 of the total population of 80lakhs have been vaccinated till now. This was pointed out by a senior officer of the GCC. Central and southern zones belonging to GCC had the highest number of vaccinations. This was as per a date from the GCC. Information collected is that Kodambakkam zone had 4455 and it was followed by 4360 vaccinations in Adyar. In the Anna Nagar zone there were 4260 vaccinations and at the Teynampet zone there were 4069 vaccinations. In the north Chennai, Manali zone had just 515 vaccinations and 930 vaccinations in the Tiruvottiyur zone. Zones such as Sholinganallur, Alandur and Madhavaram had 1228, 1163 and 1152 vaccinations respectively.
Initially, the people had fears regarding vaccinations due to some rumours but now the fast spreading of the infection has made many take vaccine shots. This was according to an officer belonging to Manali zone. It was mentioned by an official of the Sholinganallur zone of GCC that many from the IT sector have been taking vaccine shots for themselves and for their family members in private hospitals. He added that these persons do not mind paying money for their vaccination shots.
