Central Minister for Road Transport and National Highways: there may not be any tollgates at all in another year!

The Central Minister for Road Transport and National Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has informed that in another year, the country would have no toll gates at all!

When he was addressing a query during the question-hour today in the parliament (Friday, 19th March), the Central Minister for Road Transport and National Highways replied, I promise that India would become a tollgate-free country in another year!  Note that this does not mean that there would be no tollgate charges! Note that tollgate charges will be collected through GPS (Geographical Positioning System) tracking system.

GPS tracking system is installed in the latest vehicles. Though this facility is NOT available in the old vehicles, there is a proposal/plan to distal the GPS tracking system in the old vehicles.

The Central Government is earning revenue of around Rs. 34000 Crores through the recently introduced FASTag System of collecting tollgate charges!

If a GPS tracking system is installed, the central government will stand to get additional revenue of Rs. 1 Lakh-Crores!

Note that the FASTag system is being followed by 99%!

In the present system, the FASTag sticker on the vehicle is scanned and the tollgate charges are debited from the savings bank of account of the concerned person.GPS also functions similarly. As such, it is not new! It is already being practised in countries such as Japan & South Korea!

Tracking service gadgets will be installed in the vehicles. When the vehicle crosses the Highways, the tollgate charges will be automatically deducted from the concerned persons bank savings account!

With the above system installed, there will not be any need for tollgates anymore- naturally, this will reduce acute traffic congestion to a great extent. At the same time, revenues will continue to be earned by the central government. It may be noted that this system has been successfully implemented and followed in several countries!
