Till now, we might have been coming across many people in Chennai without wearing facemasks and this would not be there now.
The health department officers have clearly mentioned that not wearing facemask would invite spot fines from now on. In the last 3 days, fresh Covid-19 cases have been rising in TN especially in the city of Chennai. The public health officials are very much concerned regarding poor adherence to facemasks. They are of the view that by enforcing strict norms this issue could be solved.
Health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan made a surprise visit to some important shopping places in Chennai yesterday. He advised many who did not wear facemasks and imposed a fine of Rs 200 on the spot. He later ordered the officers of GCC to impose spot fines on those who did not wear a facemask. For non-adherence to Covid-19 appropriate norms, a penalty amount of more than Rs 13 crores has been collected till now is known.
He made his presence felt in the busy Ranganathan Street in T. Nagar and carried out facemask compliance drive. The number of fresh Covid -19 cases has been on the rise in the states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab etc and this was a warning signal for those in TN. Truth is that the Chennai public and those in TN must cooperate to contain the spread of this infection. Wearing facemasks and maintaining social distancing would help in controlling the spread.
People who arrive from the foreign countries would be tested for Covid-19 72 hours prior to their travel and they would be allowed to enter Chennai only if their result was negative. It is learnt that those travelling from the UK would be tested once again for the Covid-19 infection in TN. They would be isolated and treated if they showed any symptoms.
