Herd immunity for elders at early stage - Come March, COVID vaccination to be given for those above 50 in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu government has received green light from the Centre regarding vaccinating those who are above the age of 50 on priority basis. As a result, the vaccination for Covid-19 for seniors would begin in March. The vaccination session sites in Tamil Nadu are prepared to begin the drive as none of them has been put to 100% use.
The people above 50 would be vaccinated in the month of March and the registration process would start soon. This was pointed out by the Union Health Ministry. Mr. J. Radhakrishnan, health secretary spoke about how the detailed instructions from the government of India are awaited.
Vaccinating the elderly would help in ensuring herd immunity at an earlier stage and this was as per some experts belonging to the Public Health department. Truth is that wastage of vaccines could be prevented by giving vaccine shots to the elders instead of disposing them off. Even for the elders, the vaccination process would be voluntary.
