Thanks to NHAI or National Highway Authority of India effort for inviting tenders for installing 352 street lights and 17 mast lights!!

The news now is the Maduravoyal- Sriperumbudur stretch of Chennai-Bengaluru highway would have better lighting facilities. An amount of Rs 9.7 crores would be spent on this lighting here and tenders would be opened soon. The work would get over within 2 months of time if election dates are not announced before taking up this work.

Information collected is that already high mast lights that have a reach of 50m each have been installed at 2 junctions. As per a source belonging to NHAI it was clear that the department has been waiting for electrification at these spots. The chosen company would have to place orders as far as the work to install lights are concerned. The source mentioned that the work for the foundation to fix the posts would be carried out.

It is learnt that apart from the electrification 23.2km main carriageway and 9km service roads would be strengthened with 90mm thickness of bituminous macadam and bituminous tar surface. It was later pointed out by an engineer associated with the project that an amount of Rs 49 crores has been allotted for this work. Cleaning of medians and sides would be done and the new contractor would be cleaning twice a month.

The progress of work here has been superb and this as mentioned by a person who frequently uses this road. He spoke about how NHAI would have to level those locations where the service lane is lower than the main carriageway for smooth travel of two wheelers and other smaller vehicles etc.

To prevent pedestrians and cattle from crossing the road, medians must have rails or crash barriers. This was brought out by a Vanagaram resident.
