First time ever in the Chennai city, a division converted into all women division for a superb reason

Next time, if you go to Uthandi in south Chennai then don�t be surprised if you come across women doing the conservancy works!!
Uthandi belonging to the Sholinganallur zone is now making news. The news is the division 199 (Uthandi) has been converted into an all women division. It is worthy to mention that a private company Urbaser Sumeet has been appointed by the GCC for carrying out conservancy works. The conservancy team would have just women members.
Collecting the garbage door-to-door is being carried out by a division of 40 women conservancy employees. Out of the total 40, 32 are sweepers and the rest 6 are drivers of battery operated vehicles.
Initiative Sakthi for providing jobs to marginalised women:
It is said that the initiative has been named as �Sakthi� and the supervisors as well as assistant supervisors are also women.
It was brought to light by Mr. Hari Balaji, VR, head of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) of Urbaser Sumeet that the initiative was taken to provide jobs and financial independence to the marginalised women. By this initiative single mothers who run their families would also be benefited.
The harmonious approach of the women in whatever they are involved has been taken into consideration. This would lead to tremendous impact due to their progress oriented thoughts. More women would be trained in the future.
As per Mr. N. Mahesan, Corporation chief engineer (Solid Waste Management) confirmed that the GCC would be converting one division each in the 15 zones into an all women division.
