In TN, Amma pharmacies have created this record now, public benefited

Ever since the year 2014, Amma pharmacies in TN have been operating in full flow and these pharmacies have been providing huge service to the people of TN.

The amazing piece of information is that in the month of November 2020, the 6 year sales have crossed Rs 1000 crores. This has now grabbed the attention of many.

As per some official sources belonging to the cooperative department, annually the state of TN sells medicines worth Rs 160 crores at 20percent discount. In places like Salem, Coimbatore and in Chennai, the daily collection is more than Rs 2lakhs. 

It must be noted that the cooperative minister, Mr. Sellur Raju reviewed the state run farm fresh outlets and pharmacies. He later urged the cooperative officers to explore the brand Amma pharmacies and cooperative medical stores that have been growing annually. By selling the vegetables at low margins, the farm fresh outlets also continue to grow every year. Truth is that the operating margins are less when compared to the pharmacies.

Curtailing inflation and helping public:
The periodic performances of farm fresh outlets and Amma pharmacies must be reviewed as the Amma brand of stores helps to curtail the inflation helping the people. This was as per the cooperative minister.

According to the sources, as on date as many as 119 Amma medical shops and as many as 173 cooperative medical stores have been functioning in TN. Information is that the total six year turnover has touched a mammoth Rs 1068 crores. In the fiscal year 2015-16, the sale of medicines at the Amma pharmacies was Rs 51.62 crores. 

In the last three fiscal years, the sales have crossed the Rs 80 crores mark. It is important to note that there are 173 cooperative stores that sell medicines and their annual turnover is around Rs 85 crores.

It was mentioned that the combined business of both Amma pharmacies and cooperatives was around Rs 160 crores per annum. There has been an annual growth of 15% to 20%. It is now said that in the next 2 years of time the annual sales turnover of medicines at the government outlets would easily cross Rs 200 crores. Generic medicines that are used commonly are being promoted by the Amma pharmacies in TN.

A regular customer of Amma pharmacy was of the opinion that the pharmacies must also concentrate on the branded drugs of leading pharmaceutical companies and help the public to get medicines at discount rates.
