The latest news is Tamil Nadu government is trying to give extension to the TET certificates by one year as more than 60,000 teaching aspirants have demanded lifetime validity to their TET or Teachers Eligibility Certificates.

The NCTE or National Council for Teachers Education rules of the RTE Act had already established that the TET certificate would be valid for a time of 7 years. It must be taken into account that in TN 60,000 teaching aspirants had completed TET by the year 2013. Fact is more than 20,000 of those who had completed TET did not get an appointment order yet to work in the government schools in TN.

It is now brought out that the aspirants would have to take the TET once again to qualify as teachers especially in the government and government aided schools in TN. It is known that their TET certificates would be expiring this December.

Following the requests from the teachers who have completed TET by 2013 and who are working in private schools, the TN government is likely to extend the validity by one year. This was as per a senior officer belonging to the School Education Department. He then highlighted that it would not be extended more than 2 years and the teachers would have to appear for TET once again.

Information is as per the NCTE guidelines the candidates must renew their certificates every 7 years to keep themselves updated and fit for teaching. It is worthy to note that those candidates who have not cleared TET would be given one more chance to appear for the exams. In the months of June and July, TET must have been conducted but was postponed indefinitely due to Coronavirus threat.

The TN government would issue notification about conducting the TET exam once everything becomes normal.
