The celebrated harvest festival of the Kerala people, Onam is being celebrated today in grand style! The President and the Prime Minister of India greeted the Keralites on this grand occasion.
The unique feature of the grand Onam festival is that it is celebrated by one and all without any caste/religion bias. The Onam festival series starts on the holy day when the Hastha star falls in the month of Aavani and concludes on the 10th day (today) when the star �thiruvonam� falls with the festival being celebrated in a glorious manner.
In order to welcome King Mahabali visiting their houses, the citizens decorate their entrances with �Pookkolam� (flowered rangoli patterns), wearing new dresses and bursting crackers to greet the king. The Keralites prepare a whole lot of special dishes today, eat and enjoy!
With the monsoon season being just concluded and greenery growth everywhere, it is traditional to celebrate the Onam festival. Happiness and prosperity flow over in each family!
