Aggressive testing has played an important role in bringing the Coronavirus cases in Chennai city. Till now more than 8 lakhs RT-PCR tests have been conducted by GCC.
In the beginning, when the COVID-19 infection pandemic broke out in Chennai city, GCC did not have any idea about this infection and this led to the fast-spreading of the cases. It is superb to mention that the aggressive testing has resulted in more number of tests and this is more than the tests done in 15 states and 8 union territories.
Till Wednesday, more than 8.25 lakhs tests have been conducted in the city limits and this was as per the officials belonging to the Chennai Corporation. Around 12,000 tests per day have been conducted in Chennai and this was mentioned by a senior officer of GCC.
It was on 8th August 2020, Chennai recorded the highest number of tests conducted on a single day and 14,027 samples were tested.
In recent weeks, there has been a reduction in the positive rates in Chennai city and the reason for that was due to the high testing rate. From 14% to 15% in July, the positive rate had reduced to 8.5% to 9.5% now. Experts believe that bringing this positive rate to 5% would be an important milestone in Chennai.
By strictly adhering to the social distancing norms and wearing face masks etc, this could be achieved. By the end of this August, the positive rate would be brought down further to 6% to 6.5% in Chennai.
