Around the middle of the month of June, there were around 1000 Coronavirus positive cases reported every day in Chennai. In the last 5 days, the number of cases per day has become twice. It is now revealed that Chennai is now climbing the Coronavirus curve steadily.
Important cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata are now seeing an avalanche of Coronavirus positive cases and the epidemiologists have confirmed that there would be a peak in the first half of July month.
There would be a national peak around the middle of July or in the month of August. Fact is the first sign of peak is indicated by the consistent number of daily cases for atleast a week and then decreasing. As per some epidemiologists, by the time they reach the baseline, the infections would have doubled compared to the pre-peak period. The peak could be delayed by a few days to a week of time by the lockdown. The medical experts were of the opinion that its time to relax lockdown in Chennai city.
Information gathered is lockdown has been delaying the process where a proportion of the population has been exposed to the virus and has developed natural immunity.
On 16th June 2020, Chennai city was responsible for 63.2 percent of the new positive cases in TN. On 26th June 2020, Chennai accounted for just 53.66 percent of the new fresh cases. This despite the fact that the infection growth rose to 1.5times and Chennai added 15,000 new cases from around 32,000 new cases on the 16th of June. More testing and finding of Coronavirus has been the reason behind the increase in the numbers, especially in Chennai city.
Since the middle of June 2020, districts such as Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tuticorin, Madurai, etc plus Chennai neighborhoods like Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and Tiruvallur, etc have been recording more number of cases.
