In north Chennai, two zones namely Tondiarpet and Royapuram have reported many Coronavirus positive cases in recent times. It is now said that more Coronavirus tests are being done for the people belonging to these zones belonging to GCC. In these 2 zones, in the last 4 days, the number of samples tested has increased 2 to 3 times.
Royapuram zone had as many as 6607 Coronavirus positive cases, Tondiarpet zone had 5355 cases. This was as per the data released from GCC on 24th June at 8am. Information collected is in Royapuram zone 4086 persons were discharged after treatment and in Tondiarpet zone 2896 persons were discharged.
It was highlighted by an official belonging to GCC that aggressive testing combined with intensive fever surveillance were implemented to combat Coronavirus infection in these 2 zones of GCC.
Every day, out of a total of 500 to 600 fever camps held in Chennai, 90 to 100 fever camps are being held in Tondiarpet and Royapuram zones itself. It was later mentioned by an official that the number of samples have been increased 2 to 3 times in the last 4 days in these 2 zones in north Chennai.
On Wednesday, as many as 400 samples from Royapuram and 500 samples from Tondiarpet were taken for testing. Aggressive testing has been responsible for more number of positive cases being detected from these 2 zones now.
On 19th June 2020, as many as 183 samples were taken from Tondiarpet zone and as many as 139 from Royapuram zone. On 23rd June 2020, 522 samples were taken for testing from Tondiarpet zone and 415 from Royapuram zone. This was according to sample collection details. Door-to-door surveillance has been strengthened plus thermal guns were given to the surveyors. Truth is surveyors check the temperature of the residents themselves rather than asking the residents.
