The latest news is GCC has employed 3500 more warriors to contain the spread of this infection.
It must be taken into account that these persons would have a register in their hands and they are mostly students studying in the colleges plus those belonging to the neighbourhood. They are grouped under FOCUS or Friend of COVID Person Under Surveillance.
These 3,500 persons have been employed under Home Quarantine and Isolation Management System or HQIMS. They would be involved in visiting all the containment streets of GCC and make sure that 1,17,000 people - Coronavirus positive patients, their contacts, returnees from abroad, flight passengers, train passengers, from hotspot states, inter-state road travellers, those awaiting test results, cured and discharged patients and those with influenza-like illness spotted at the fever clinics follow 14-day isolation process.
These newly appointed persons would be paid a monthly salary of Rs 15,000. They would have ID cards, caps, masks and fanny bags and would be visiting the houses in Chennai.
Initially, they have been hired on a monthly contract and it might be extended even after the completion of the lockdown. By being a part of WhatsApp groups, these persons would be providing help to others in the neighbourhood.
At the zonal level, assistant revenue officers would collect details of the homes under various categories of isolation and segregate them division wise among volunteers for daily surveillance. Later, thrice a day, volunteers would visit the homes of every quarantined person and help them by buying medicines, essentials plus check their health and finally report it to the corporation.
At 7:30 am every day, there would be mandatory roll calls and volunteers would be allotted homes. Each volunteer would be visiting atleast 5 streets and 20 to 30 people daily. This would be followed by entering the details of quarantined persons in the apps.
