The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board or CMWSSB has been given instructions by the local administration department to install more plastic water tanks in the containment zones where piped water supply to individual homes was unavailable.
It was pointed out by the local administration minister Mr. S.P. Velumani that there was no water shortage throughout the Chennai city. He was responding to a question regarding complaints from patients about drinking water shortage at the government hospitals in Chennai during summer.
On Wednesday, in the Amma Maligai in the Ripon Buildings, Mr. Velumani and fisheries minister Mr. Jayakumar were seen interacting with the media persons.
Few days back, Mr. Velumani chaired a coordination meeting with all the departments and a decision was taken at the meeting regarding installing plastic water tanks in the containment zones in Chennai.

The local administration minister spoke about the directions that have been issued to install plastic water tanks in the above said places so that the residents would have easy access for the drinking water in the containment zones.
Water boards would be joining hands with the GCC and 300 plastic water tanks would be installed in the containment zones. Since the street would be designated as a containment zone for just 14 days water tanks would be installed on a temporary basis.
