Identifying public places for setting up of COVID care centers has been carried out by the government of TN now. It must be taken into account that 70% of Corona-virus patients need accommodation in health and care centers. There are many cases that need hospitalization also.
In this scenario, the officials have begun identifying public places to create the much-needed facilities. Buildings or spaces that could be converted into COVID health or care centers and these buildings have been identified by secretaries of Public Works and Highways Department.
There are 4 categories of facilities in which Corona-virus patients in TN were being treated. These are severe cases that need hospitalization, moderate cases that are admitted to care centers, mild cases that are housed at care centers and asymptomatic cases that are at-home quarantine.
A senior official explained about how 10% of total active patients need hospitalization, some 20% need health centers, another 50% need care centers and the rest in-home quarantine. This has been shown by the figures. He highlighted that the government has been increasing the bed facilities in the hospitals and facilities for 70% of the patients must also be arranged. It is known that these form the majority of Corona positive cases.
Up to one lakh patients who need health or care centers could be housed at the hospitals or at the public buildings that are in the custody of the TN government. Truth is the authorities have been looking for potential sites that could be converted to those facilities.
It was pointed out by the senior official that one lakh Corona-virus patients who are moderately/mildly symptomatic could be housed at the schools or in the college buildings. In case more cases get reported then it is important to have more such facilities to treat the patients.
The duration of hospitalization has become an issue now for the TN government with respect to the beds reserved for the Corona-virus patients in private as well as in the government hospitals.
Severely affected persons would need a bed for a time of 10 days. What this means is the bed would be occupied by the patient for 10 days at a time when more than 1500 Corona-virus positive cases are being reported daily. Every day, the status of health infrastructure in TN is being monitored and the number of beds needed and beds available calculated. This was as per the official.
