The news that FIR or First Information Report has been filed against 40 persons in Chennai for violating home quarantine rules has been the subject of discussion for many now.

Strict action to be taken against those violating quarantine norms has been announced by the Chennai Corporation commissioner Mr. G. Prakash.  It was brought out by an official release that a police complaint would be filed and the person and extended contacts would be shifted to Covid care centres.

As per an official it was clear that the public must co-operate and this apart from the initiatives taken by the authorities. Only after giving several warnings, action has been taken. Except Alandur zone/ zone 12, all other 14 zones had many violating the quarantine norms. There were 7 violators each in zones like Tondiarpet/ zone 4 and Royapuram/zone5.

It is worth mentioning that most asymptomatic Corona positive patients were sent to Covid care centres and those with houses having facilities were allowed to isolate themselves within their homes. At present, 3000 persons are under home quarantine in the Chennai city limits and this includes those who have come back from abroad and from other states. When compared to the exponential growth of Coronavirus cases in Chennai, there are now just 360 areas under containment.

It is said that the containment areas are low in numbers. The reason was due to the revised containment norms. It is now well known that the GCC does not bring the entire street under containment unless there is a spurt in the cases.
