ust yesterday, GCC had announced that it would put persons undergoing Corona virus tests and their family members under home quarantine. It is well known that GCC has been taking many steps to contain the spread of Coronavirus infection.
The news that has come out now is the symptomatic persons even if their test results are negative would be placed under home quarantine. This was mentioned by Mr. J. Radhakrishnan, the newly appointed health secretary.
He explained about how even if the test results are negative and if the person has got Covid-19 symptoms and hails from the containment zones in Chennai then he or she would be kept under home quarantine. He also hinted that others would not be quarantined for undergoing Corona virus tests. It is worthy to note that there is a chance of spreading Coronavirus infection to others as those undergoing tests tend to meet others till the results get released (normally 2days). This is the rationale behind the announcement.
It must be remembered that on Thursday, Mr, G. Prakash, Chennai Corporation commissioner, issued a statement and as per the statement all those undergoing Corona virus tests at the Chennai labs and their family persons would be placed under home quarantine for a time of 14 days.
At a Siddha care centre belonging to Saligramam in Chennai, a sending of a meeting took place and Mr. Radhakrishnan made his presence felt. He took part in sending 30 persons who have recovered from Coronavirus infection to their homes. He later highlighted that the testing rate in TN was the highest in the entire India and around 6lakhs tests have been conducted in TN.
Point is from 1st May onwards in Chennai alone GCC has conducted 1.75 lakh tests. It was very clear from his statement that the spike in the number of positive cases in Chennai city has been because of more tests conducted in Chennai. Truth is identifying more cases would ensure effective isolation of positive persons. In the Chennai city, out of more than 39,000 streets, cases have been reported from just 5210 streets only.
