The lockdown to contain Corona spread started in the third week of March is known. At that time, the students and teachers belonging to the government and government-aided schools in TN were worried as they could not complete their portions.
Yesterday, the TN state government announced that the students of class 10 would be given 80 % marks based on their performances in the quarterly and in the half-yearly examinations and the rest 20% based on their attendance. This announcement was not welcomed unanimously.
According to Mr. P.B.Prince Gajendra Babu, General Secretary of State Platform for Common School System - Tamil Nadu (SPCSS-TN), the TN government’s decision to cancel the class 10 public examinations was good due to the Coronavirus threat.
He highlighted that the cancellation has brought a huge amount of relief on the faces of many parents and students. He wanted the government to issue guidelines to all the TN schools for admitting the students for higher education as per their choices.
Mr. P.K. Illamaran, president of TN Teachers Association expressed his thoughts and spoke about how the association has been insisting the government cancel the board examinations ever since the lockdown began in TN.
He then explained that the TN government’s latest announcement to cancel the board examinations would bring huge happiness and relief to many government school teachers as they were unable to complete the syllabus on time.
