The Chennai city has opened for more services now and the residents have been allowed to move freely now. Despite these, the patronage for autos and cabs hasnt picked up yet in Chennai.
The more numbers of Coronavirus positive cases in Chennai plus the fear of getting affected by this infection has made many people to be in their homes instead of going out. This has resulted in poor businesses for autos and cabs. The number of requests has decreased now and this was as per some drivers who operate through rideshare apps. Bitter truth is even in the peak hours of time there have been no requests for the autos or cabs now.
An auto driver shared her thoughts about her poor patronage. She pointed out that she had been keeping her app opened all day and how she did not receive any requests from the passengers.
She added that it was no use travelling through Chennai in search for rides as it would lead to petrol costs. Presently, many auto drivers have been scouring the streets of Chennai in search of rides but of no use. It was later mentioned by another auto driver that Chennai streets were deserted and many were not showing interest to come out of their homes.
Point is re-opening of the offices plus other commercial establishments such as restaurants havent increased the patronage in the autos and cabs in Chennai. There are some offices that have organised their own cabs for their employees and this has led to a decrease of the rides.
