Just a few hours after being admitted to the government hospitals in TN, many have passed away. This has caught the attention of many now.

Point is the new protocol issued by the state government to test only those with Covid-19 symptoms have been criticized.

On 1st June 2020, a 53 year old man admitted to a SMCH passed away just a few hours after admission. On 5th June 2020, another patient 82 year old also succumbed to Coronavirus just a few hours after being admitted to the government hospital. It was mentioned in the death memorandums issued by the hospital that both had infection.

At the sample collection centres, those people without any Covid-19 symptoms were turned away from testing by GCC. Tests were conducted only on those who had symptoms. This was according to some Chennai residents.

A resident explained about how his friend went to a private lab for testing as he was turned away at the sample collection centre of GCC. He added that since the test results get released after 1 or 2days the admission process gets delayed.

According to a senior doctor from SMCH it was clear that only after reaching the critical stage most patients visit the hospitals. There were some patients who died just a few hours after they had tested Coronavirus positive.

If the family members and the contacts of the infected persons did not show any symptoms then GCC stopped testing. Important information gathered is one person out of 5 persons tested positive for Coronavirus in Chennai.

It was brought out by Dr. Sivakumar, a member of an expert committee set up by the TN government that many infected persons do not show any symptoms and they remain just normal. He added that the blood oxygen saturation values would decrease without them realising and there could be silent hypoxia. This could lead to death also.
