Lockdown conditions have been extended until 31st May in Tamil Nadu.
This is as per the announcement released by the State Government of Tamil Nadu which has also announced certain relaxations. This was released by the Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy yesterday (Sunday, 17t May). New relaxations:
Following relaxations are announced as recommended by the high-level committee for the gradual withdrawal of the lockdown conditions.
- The relaxations would be applicable in the following 25 districts (Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Namakkal, Karur, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Thenkasi, Kanyakumari, Theni, Madurai, Sivagabgai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Pudhukkotai, Trichy, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Nagappattinam, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Vellore, and Niligiri):
- Transportation within the district without e-pass is allowed.
- The public is requested to cooperate in the prevention of spreading of infection by utilizing the public transport ONLY for ESSENTIAL WORKS and PERMITTED TASKS.
- For travel from 1 district to another, the existing procedure of e-pass will continue.
- Special permission has been given to the government and private sector factories to function. A maximum of 20 persons can travel in the public and private sector buses. 7 passengers are allowed in vans. In bigger cars such as Innova, 3 persons are allowed to travel. In smaller cars, 2 persons are allowed.
- In the 25 districts where local transport has been permitted within the district, hired cabs and taxis can be used for local travel within the district without e-pass for essential activities � agriculture, trade, and medical reasons. The public MUST AVOID VENTURING OUT UNNECESSARILY.
- Permission is given for the National Rural Job Guarantee scheme to employ 100% of their staff instead of the present 50%.
- Apart from the areas under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Metro Police Department, the rest of the Tamil Nadu State city corporations, town corporations, and metro corporations, the factories/offices with employee strength under 50 which deploy 50% staff presently are permitted to employ 100% staff.
- For the factories with more than 50 employees in the above areas, permission is given to employing 100% staff instead of the present 50% staff. For the factories with more than 100 employees, 50% of staff, or a minimum of 100 employees are permitted.
- The private sector organizations and trading organizations which are presently under lockdown conditions are permitted to deploy minimum staff for the upkeep and maintenance.
- An exemption is given to carry out the activity of the correction of the 12th Standard public examination answer sheets.
- Training with a separate trainer for the National and International sports events is permitted. However, permission has to be obtained for this from the respective district collector and the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation.
- Among the districts, in the 12 districts WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT, permission is given to travel by auto/taxi with N e-pass ONLY FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES.
