Who would have thought that one day the passengers travelling in MTC buses in Chennai would be wearing face masks!!

This could become true soon. An internal circular was issued by MTC to its branch managers, divisional managers, bus terminus in-charges and employees etc.

It is well known that TN state government has announced that the lock down would be there till 3rd of May. Point is the MTC buses have been suspended since 24th of March and just 200 MTC buses are being operated for the sake of essential service workers.

The crew belonging to MTC were given orders that passengers boarding MTC buses should not be allowed to travel without face masks. The passengers inside the MTC buses must maintain social distancing.

Important information collected is the MTC buses would ply on those routes that have been disinfected. It is known that MTC asked all its employees to wear face masks and wash their hands using soap every one hour.

The circular also brought to light about the need to install Arogya Setu app in their mobile phones and how the employees must immediately call 104 if they find anybody infected. A 50 ml bottle of hand sanitizer should be carried by the employees of MTC. The circular mentioned about the need for social distancing among the employees in their workplaces.

The MTC employees must clean the tables, chairs, computers, mouse, keyboards, steering wheels, cash bags and tools twice or thrice in their work times. There are many conductors who use their saliva while issuing bus tickets to the passengers. It is now said that the conductors must use wet sponge while issuing tickets.

At the end of each trip, drivers and conductors must wash their hands well. It must be taken into note that at all the bus depots all buses must be cleaned and disinfected before starting the trip.
