Many central government offices started to function from Monday in Chennai.

It is now said that in Chennai the markets were crowded and arterial stretches like Anna Salai etc were full of vehicles. It must not be forgotten that GCC had ordered temporary closure of around 60 markets and meat shops and the many vehicles get seized daily by the police for violating the prohibitory orders.

Important piece of information is Koyambedu wholesale market plus others like Ice House, shops in Arumbakkam and Sunday meat shops remain crowded.

This week also saw the opening of Marina Beach Loop Road that was closed from 22nd March till 15th April 2020 to contain Corona virus. It was pointed out by Mr. Vikramraja, president of Federation of TN Traders Association that it was unfair to put the entire blame on the shopkeepers.

He explained about how in every shop against a total strength of 6 just 2 ran the business and how they cant focus on maintaining social distancing from their customers. He stressed that the people must cooperate with the shopkeepers but they were more interested on selecting the essentials before the stocks ran out. Sealing the crowded shops had paid rich dividends in some places and this was confirmed by an official belonging to revenue department.

A makeshift market on Venkatanarayana Road was closed by the corporation officials and this made huge impact on the nearby shops etc as they soon followed norms strictly. In addition to the commercial activities, the government has also been responsible in contributing to the chaos by organizing press meets.
