Demand for LPG cooking gas cylinders up by 40%!

The lockdown condition which was imposed in the 1st Phase throughout the country from 25th March to 14th April has now been extended in the 2nd Phase up to 3rd May.
So, the factories and transport operations were on a standstill leading the fall in demand for petrol/diesel by 70%.
However, at the same time, the demand for the LPG cooking gas cylinders has shot up very fast!
Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum, and Bharath Petroleum have informed that the demand for the LPG cooking gas cylinders, as compared with previous year April, has shot up by 40%!
For the delivery of the LPG cooking gas cylinder during the months of April, May, and June, the oil corporations above have floated tenders for the procurement of 7,36,000 tons of LPG cooking gas.
Due to this, the price of the cooking gas also gone up in the international market. As the quantum of cooking has increased in houses (due to the lockdown situation with all members of the family at home) the extent of gas use has increased considerably.
Many of the citizens who got gas connections through the Ujjwala scheme have stopped using cooking gas!
But, they have now been supplied with free cooking gas! This is also one of the reasons for the increase in demand for the LPG cooking gas cylinders!
