Residents to get special vehicle passes to attend weddings etc during Corona virus lock down in Chennai

There would be many people who would be interested to go to the marriage functions and funerals of their relatives plus go out for other emergencies etc. For the benefit of these people, Chennai city police have opened a special control room.
On Sunday, 29th march 2020, many people came to Vepery based commissioner office to utilize this opportunity. These people were sent back to their homes. It was mentioned by a police official that many wanted to go to their native places as they feel bored working from their homes. He added that this would not be allowed.

The police official later explained about how for those who wanted to attend the funerals in distant districts might not be able to attend as the passes would only be issued after verification that would take time. This verification process would depend on the ground level officials in the districts.
It must be noted that the essential commodities manufacturers might get passes for their workers and vehicles from GCC. This was as per pr�ss release on Sunday.
Passes could be got by the Indian manufacturers from the Deputy Commissioner, Works, Ripon Buildings, Regional Deputy Commissioner or RDC North Basin Bridge Road, Old Washermanpet, RDC Central at Pulla Avenue in Shenoy Nagar, RDC South, Dr Muthulakshmi Salai in Adyar.
Procedure for getting passes:
- In the first step, an application furnishing the date of journey and the purpose must be written.
- For attending weddings, attach wedding invitation (blood relatives only). There would not be any pass issued for attending the wedding functions of distant relatives, close friends, others etc.
- For the purpose of confirmation, the application would be send to VAO of respective districts.
- For the purpose of attending funeral it is important to provide information about the date of death and the relation with deceased.
- For those who want to go to other states for emergency purposes, they are sent to collector�s office.
- Newspaper agents and other people working as domestic staffs in private companies are directed to concerned corporation offices.
