Chennai Mylapore Kapaleeswarar temple: Emphasis on wearing an only a traditional dress

It has been emphasised that the devotees and foreigners visiting the famous Chennai Mylapore Lord Kapaleeswarar temple must wear the traditional dress only!

Chennai Mylapore Lord Kapaleeswarar temple is one of the globally hugely popular temples of Lord Siva and a landmark of the Chennai Metro City as well!

Apart from the devotees who are local residents, residents from other parts of Chennai Metro City, other districts, other states and other countries visit the temple in large numbers.

The guides who bring the foreign tourists do not inform about the dress regulations traditionally observed while visiting holy places. So, the foreigners visit wearing all kinds of outfits leggings, mini-skirt, T-shirt, shorts, etc.!

There is an existing rule that the devotees visiting the temples under the jurisdiction of the Hindu Religious Endowment Board must wear only traditional dresses.

A special notice is about to be put up detailing the dress regulations on behalf of the temple administration.

Men can wear Dhotis, shirts, full pants, shirts and sherwanis. They must not wear lungis (kailis), half-drawers, etc. Women can wear sarees-blouse, half-sarees, chudidhar with dupatta, and Punjabi dress. Women must not wear T-shirts, Baniyans, skirts, mini-skirts, leggings, etc. They must not wear items like only the kurtha without dupatta! Wearing dupatta is mandatory.

This notice-board is likely to be put up in the temple premises complex in a couple of days! The guidelines regarding the dress code and restriction were explained to the devotees on behalf of the temple administration who visited the temple yesterday (Friday, 21st February).
