On the Anna Salai, SBI building present is 100 years old now

One of the important landmarks on the arterial road of the Anna Salai is State Bank of India�s or SBI white building. The news that has come out now is this building recently turned 100 years. It is now said that motorists cannot miss this amazing white structure.

It was way back on 8th January in the year 1920 this SBI building (constructed n the Pallava style of architecture associated with Europe) came into existence and it was then called as Mount Road branch of Bank of Madras.

Sources belonging to SBI pointed out that after the year 1921 the 3 presidency banks were merged and called as Imperial Bank of India. On 1st July in the year 1955, SBI was formed and since then this single storey building built in 22000 sq ft land has been serving many customers. 

On December in 2019, this SBI crossed Rs 1000 crore mark in the business and there is now a customer base of nearly 20000. For the sake of modern facilities and better interiors, SBI building was renovated recently and no structural changes were made. There are as many as 1231 lockers in this SBI building and a dedicated e-corner with an electronic cheque deposit machine and a recycler.

The centenary celebrations of this SBI building took place recently and it grabbed many eyeballs as the long standing customer Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammad Abdul Ali was felicitated. The function saw the presence of Mr. Rajnish Kumar, SBI chairman and SBI chief GM Chennai circle Mr. Vinay Tonse etc.
