Chennai district: 62,000 applications for voters list inclusion/correction!

62,000 citizens have applied for either inclusion of name or correction of the particulars in the voters� list in Chennai district so far.
The draft voters� list for the Chennai district, consisting of 16 Legislative Assembly Constituencies was released recently. There are 19,15,718 men, 19,71,966 women, and 989 other voters for a total of 38,88,673 voters.
In this status, the Election Commission has shown keenness to expedite the preparation of the final voters� list.
To enable this objective, special camps were conducted at the polling booths on the holidays - 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th (Saturdays and Sundays). Accordingly, during the camps, 49,674 citizens have applied for inclusion of names in the voters� list. 767 citizens have applied for removal of names. So, a total of 62,260 citizens have applied during these camps.
It has now been announced that the final voters� list will be prepared and is to be released during the 2nd week of February.
