To improve the security plus to keep an eye on the passengers and parking staffs, Chennai Metro Rail Limited or CMRL has come up with a superb idea now. It is now said that all the stations belonging to the Chennai Metro would soon have CCTV cameras. In the past there have been complaints of passengers assaulting the parking lots staffs and the decision to install CCTV cameras was taken based on this reason.

For the demand of a particular parking lot at the metro stations in Chennai, passengers have hit the parking lots staffs and there have been 3 or 4 cases in the last few months of time. It is worthy to note that for those passengers who have taken monthly pass, Chennai Metro has reserved specific spots. Therefore for those passengers who park their vehicles on hourly basis, parking space is allotted on first come first served basis.

An official belonging to CMRL expressed his thoughts about this. He spoke about how the passengers get agitated as the parking space becomes full or the passengers refuse to wait till they get the monthly pass checked by the authorities. The official then revealed about how 2 weeks back a passenger had assaulted a parking lot staff for the want of a specific parking space for his car. It must be noted that this parking space demanded by the passenger was reserved for vehicle with monthly pass. Finally the passenger came for a compromise and even paid for the hospital bills of the staff.

The official then spoke out about another example where the passenger slapped parking unit staff member as he did not want to stand in the line to get the pass checked by the authorities. It was also brought out by some passengers having monthly pass that the parking lots staffs make them to wait for longer time for checking every vehicle.

In the 45 km network on phase-1, CMRL has got plans to install 2 to 6 CCTV cameras in all the 32 metro stations. It would depend on the size of the parking lot plus on how it was built. It was pointed out by an official of CMRL that some parking lots that were built in L shape would require 3 to 4 cameras. By this installation of CCTV cameras, even misbehavior of the staffs with the passengers would be brought to light. This was also confirmed by the official.
