Many crimes have been taking place in the streets of Chennai. The Chennai police are on a mission to set up CCTV cameras for every 50 metres in the city of Chennai to prevent these crimes is known. The latest news is Chromepet residents have installed as many as 28 CCTV cameras in their locality to keep an eye over their streets. It is worth mentioning here that the members belonging to VPG Residents Association of East Radha Nagar, Chromepet have pooled in money of contributions ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 5000 and they have installed 28 CCTV cameras at a cost of Rs 2.40 lakhs.
At various vantage points in Chromepet locality, the association that represents around 300 households have installed these CCTV cameras with night vision. This has attracted the attention of many now. Some of the streets in Chromepet where the CCTV cameras are present are Venkateswara Street(cross street and extension), Vivekananda Street( cross street and extension), Dhandapani street, Pazhaniandavar Street, part of Ganapathypuram main road etc. The important piece of information is this area did not witness any major crime and as per the residents it is very clear that the CCTV cameras would act as further deterrent. It is now revealed that Inhibition of the movements of the anti-social elements in the locality would be done by these CCTV cameras.
Monitoring and retaining the footage is very important and the members of the association would be doing this as of now. In the event of any crime, the footage would be provided to the police to solve the issue. Pallavaram MLA, Mr. E. Karunanidhi, made his presence felt by installing the CCTV cameras in this locality and in addition to this he also contributed an amount of Rs 20,000. The secretary of federation of associations, Pallavapuram, Mr. Murugaiyan also took part.
