The ban on 14 plastic items from tomorrow (1st January) throughout Tamil Nadu

The ban on 14 plastic items including the carry-bags, tea-cups, etc., comes into effect from tomorrow (Tuesday, 1st January). The state government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the ban is violated penalty payment will be charged.
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, E, Palanisamy, announced in June that giving due consideration of the importance of protecting the environment, the ban on 14 plastic items is being implemented.
As per the related Government Order, the non-bio-degradable plastic items such as plastic sheets, plastic plates, plastic tea0cups, plastic water mugs, plastic straws, plastic carry-bags, and plastic flags are being banned from tomorrow.
However, the exemption has been given to the plastic-cover items such as milk, curd, oil, and medicines.
As the items procured from the shops will not be given in plastic bags, the public needs to carry cloth bags for making purchases.
A request has been made to the public to come forward themselves and avoid usage of plastic carry-bags and the other plastic items as mentioned above.
10000 squads have been formed to monitor whether the above ban is being implemented.
A review meeting is scheduled to be conducted today (Monday, 31st December) regarding the further initiatives to be taken on this front on behalf of the state Pollution Control Board.
As regards the Chennai Metro City Corporation, it has been emphasized if the traders/residents keep any of the above-banned plastic items, they are to be handed over to the respective Corporation Ward Offices before the evening.
If any of the above-banned plastic items are manufactured or sold or kept, the Corporations of cities including the Chennai Metro City and Salem have planned to confiscate the same.
