Reintroducing bicycle patrol in Chennai

In the areas of Ayanavaram and Kilpauk Chennai Police brings back the bicycle patrol that was once very common throughout the entire state. This act of reviving the old method of bicycle patrolling is to ensure the safety of localities in terms of visible policing. On of the key advantage of bicycle patrolling is the simplicity. One can have broader in and out perspective of remote locations of the city that reduces the cost of fuel as well as a physical exercise for police men and women.
The bicycle move will also bring a general rapport with the residents of the city. In 2016 the then chief minister, J. Jayalalithaa launched the patrolling system with 250 bicycles. Each station was given two cycles fitted with microphone and blinkers. The initiative was discontinued after two months. Now the state government relaunched the proposed program again in the areas of Kilpauk and Ayanavaram. The allotted cycles are ordered to use for the commencement of the bicycle patrolling.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kilpauk S. Rajendran People were unable to have easy access with police with the four wheeler patrolling system. Now the relaunch of the bicycle program can enable the department to handle more crowded and deep localities without the intervention of bog sized vehicles. Police Department started creating awareness about the CCTV monitoring with many media related promotions and also direct awareness program with this new patrolling system widening the information through distant narrow lanes of the core city.
This kind of old school method of bicycle governance can provide more security and accessibility factors for general public. Visible policing in the form of CCTV monitoring and Bicycle patrolling can improve the safety of the city said many residents of Ayanavaram and Kilpauk. Crime and other illegal activities in the city can be controlled with these types of direct visible monitoring systems. The bicycle patrolling is initiated now as a form of testing phase and will be launched in many parts of the city after thorough analysis.
