IIT M or Indian Institute of Technology Madras is one of the leading educational institutes in Chennai city. This IIT Madras is now making superb news. The news is IIT M would soon be associating with TN e-governance agency for enhancing data driven e-governance. The various areas that would be given importance are education, healthcare and agriculture.
On Tuesday, 9th October 2018, a memorandum of understanding or MoU was signed and as per this Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence or RBC-DSAI of IIT M would be working together in various departments belonging to the state government.
CEO of TNeGA, Mr. Santhosh K. Mishra and Mr. Ravindra Gettu, dean ICSR or industrial consultancy and sponsored research of IIT M signed the memorandum of understanding. Information and technology minister, Mr. Manikandan and IT secretary, Mr. Santhosh Babu were present when this MoU was signed.
Mr. Santosh Mishra expressed his thoughts and spoke about how Tamil Nadu was the first state to join hands with IITM for harnessing power of AI and blockchain technology in the areas of education, health and agriculture. According to Dr. Nandhan Sudarsanam, assistant professor, department of management studies, IIT M, this project was very important and the societal impact through artificial intelligence is the central objective of RBC-DSAI at IITM. He later added that by joining hands with TNeGA, IITM would be able to contribute to multiple pillars of government in areas such as education, healthcare and agriculture etc. It is worthy to note that the parties would develop products, decision support systems and provide insights from data. There would also be periodic workshops etc involving students in data science etc.
Mr. Santhosh Babu later spoke about how the governance has to move from the demand mode of service delivery to the predictive mode of service delivery. He further added that services must be provided to the people even before they demand. He finally spoke about how the government need to tap the power of AI, blockchains and drones etc. To support and drive all the e-Governance initiatives of the government of TN, TneGA formed under IT department is playing its part is known.
