The director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, Balachandran, has informed that the
Red Alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department to Tamil Nadu about very heavy rains (especially in the southern districts) on 7th October has been withdrawn.

Balachandran had a session with the press reporters today (Saturday, 6th October)  He shared that it was expected that there might be very heavy rains in a few places in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu including Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Theni, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Virudhunagar. Because of this, Red Alert was issued to Tamil Nadu.

However, as there no prospects for heavy rains at present, this Red Alert, issued to Tamil Nadu, is being withdrawn. The director informed that as the prospects for heavy rains dwindled, Red Alert was withdrawn. However, he warned that the prospects of heavy to medium rain are still prevailing.

Further, there are prospects of medium rain wide-spread over Tamil Nadu. There are prospects of heavy rain in a few places as well.

As the cyclonic form which developed over the upper layers of the atmosphere over the South Tamil Nadu weakened, the prospects of heavy rain looming over the districts located in the Western Ghat mountain range has receded and this has led to the Red Alert being withdrawn.
