In the state of Tamil Nadu there are more than 300 M-Sand units present. In Tamil Nadu, the demand for M-Sand or manufactured sand has been on the rise is known. The latest news is the builders have demanded the government to open more such M-Sand units.

The important point to be noted is due to the scarcity of the availability of river sand in Tamil Nadu, the builders and other individuals use manufactured sand more. The cost of this manufactured sand is low and it is Rs3500 to Rs 4500 per unit. The (sand mining) public works department or PWD must set up a team so that the quality of manufactured sand gets checked. PWD has certified 48 units as fit out of the total of 300 units. This was confirmed by the vice-chairman of the southern builders association, Mr. Ramaprabhu. He spoke about how the PWD must examine quality of the sand in more units and how the scarcity of the sand would be no longer present.

According to a senior officer belonging to sand mining wing, there is an increase in the demand for the manufactured sand or M-Sand. He clarified that due to the presence of water in more rivers in TN, the availability of river sand has declined greatly. This senior officer later added that a committee to check the sand quality was formed already.  He finally highlighted the importance of opening of more M-sand units and said depending upon the demand and supply, a proposal would be sent to the government in this regard. now demanded by the builders in TN
