Some months ago Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) cancelled the bus route of 19G that operated between Broadway and Kovalam. Now the transportation body reassigned the name of the bus for a new route between Guindy and Kelambakkam.

The main reason for the rearrangement of the rotes is the increasing demand of transportation options in IT corridor of Chennai, Rajiv Gandhi Salai connected to the nearby localities. MTC announced two new routes for serving the purpose of public transportation in these regions of IT companies 19G connecting Guindy Industrial Estate and Kelambakkam and 570P connecting CMBT and Perumbakkam.

Bus 19G takes the route of Madhya Kailash, Tidel Park, Thuraipakkam and Shollinganallur ending the journey in Kelambakkam. While 570P connect the ends via SRP tools and Velachery. Through this route people at Velachery got another route to reach CMBT. People from Perumbakkam had to take two buses to reach CMBT and now with the new 570P route the direct connection is possible.

There are several confusions among the travelers with the old name 19G leading to the boarding of wrong bus route. The 19G route was a well-known route among the city dwellers that connected Broadway and Kovalam. Now the change of route in terms of developing transportation for business zones alone created a disruption among people for making their travel miserable in the peak times.

MTC transports more than 37 lakh commuters a day. In spite of the dense population in all regions of the city MTC diverting all routes to IT corridors most likely to bring some imbalance in providing equal bus facilities for all areas. There are several low income workers who travel between city outskirts and mainland for their livelihood. Reducing the routes in these areas and increasing the bus facility in only IT or business junctions can lead to poor intercity connectivity.
