Modernized bus depots soon by MTC

As a move to give enhanced facilities to commuters, a modernized bus depot is likely to be set up by the Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
These works are to be carried out in phased manner. Soon, about 5 main depots will be picked up as the first phase of the project. As per MTC official sources, a total of 32 depots are present in the city and suburbs of which almost half of them dont have even the preliminary amenities like toilet or water.
In the monsoon times, there will be very irksome times due to waterlogged depots. One of the bus commuters says he travels often in MTC buses there is no drinking water supply in any of the bus depot. While there are a lot of passengers preferring MTC buses, it is important for the MTC officials to take necessary measures to renovate depots and give them the needed basics as facilities, he adds.
Once the modernized depots are ready, it will be very convenient for all the commuters. Not just the commuters, but also the depot employees complained about lack of enough facilities at the depots. One has to spend their own money to get water. Also, there is no toilet facility due to which the MTC staff members and commuters are cornered to pee in open locations, says a depot time keeper. In spite of bringing these issues to the notice of high officials earlier, there was no response or measure taken.
Officials from the MTC affirm the renovation works. The depots are being inspected and a proposal will soon be sent across to the government in order to begin with the construction works at 5 select depots in the first phase, they add. Regarding the cost of the project, it will be known after preparing blueprint.
