Toll-free emergency number for women

After a 23-year old woman was brutally raped in New Delhi, the Government has started taking security measure for women – one of them being the 181 toll free number. This emergency number used to be 167 but has been revised for better remembrance. The number can be used across the country.
Union Telecommunications Minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal said that he will be writing to all State Governments to set up centres to receive calls to this number.
