Train travelling time between Chennai and Jolarpettai to be reduced by another 10 minutes

Travelling by train is a fabulous experience and we all love travelling by trains. Isn`t it!! People travelling between Chennai and Jollarpettai would be delighted by this superb piece of news.

In the upgraded loop line between Chennai and Jollarpettai, the trains would be running at greater speeds than before and as a result of this speed the travelling time would be reduced by another ten minutes.

The important piece of news is Chennai Divison of southern railway has proposed to increase the maximum permitted speeds of trains from the present 15 kmph to 30 kmph. The loop lines are present in many stations like Thiruvallur, Kadambathur, Arakkonam, Walajah, Mukundarayapuram, Katpadi, Ambur, Gudiyatham between Chennai and Jollarpettai. Trains would run in both directions at reduced travel time.

According to a senior official of Chennai division, the travel times of trains including Lalbagh, Brindavan, Kovai Express, Bengaluru Express, Jolarpettai Express, Intercity Express, West Coast Express and Yercaud Express would be reduced by 5 to 8 minutes. It is known that these above mentioned express trains have got stoppages at all major stations between Chennai and Jolarpettai.

An official belonging to railways spoke about how the proposal has been sent to commissioner of railway safety for his inspection. The various factors that were considered for  categorizing tracks in various sections  from class A to class E are traffic demand, strategic priority and maximum supporting need of section.

It is important to note that the train tracks connecting state capitals with New Delhi are categorized under class A and are laid with tracks weighing 60kg per metre.

Under class B are the tracks of Chennai- Bengaluru, Chennai-Coimbatore-Palakkad and are laid with tracks weighning 52 kg per metre.

In the last 2 years, old tracks in the mainline and loop lines between Chennai and Jollarpettai were replaced by the southern railways with rail lines weighing 60 kg per metre. This was done for the purpose of safety of trains.

In the Mukundarayapuram station the trains take atleast 12 to 15 minutes to cross 1.2km track and this is one of the longest loop lines present in southern railways.
