Chennai’s water problems

Chennai is no stranger to water problems and this year seems to be no different. With the poor performance by the Southwest and Northeast monsoons last year, water in lakes and reservoirs around the city have reduced. With the coming of the summer, this will need to be solved at the earliest.
In a bid to improve the situation the Chief Secretaries of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh met on Saturday to increase the amount of river Krishna’s water released into the Kandaleru dam. The current agreement states a release of 12 tmc annually but it has been decided that more will be released as per requirement.
